South Asia Regional Initiative for Energy Integration

Webinar on Importance of creating Regional Technical Institutional Mechanism for harmonising Power System Operation practices and norms in South Asia’, and key considerations towards its formulation

  23rd March 2021,

At present, most of the cross border electricity trade is being carried out at the bilateral level. However, going forward with the creation of newer and enhanced cross border power trading opportunities, as well as trilateral and multilateral trade, coordination amongst the different systems may be more challenging. Under such conditions, a regional institutional mechanism amongst the ‘Power System Operators’ can provide a platform for cross-cutting deliberations and exchange of ideas in the matters of system operation across the region, as well as render necessary support towards integrated power system operation in the region in a safe, secure and reliable manner.

SARI/EI has been advocating the need for a regional institutional mechanism in the South Asia for enhancing the level of cooperation in the field of power system operation and long term sustainability of CBET, in the region. To deliberate on this point further, a Webinar is being held on 23rd March 2021, from 3.00 PM to 4.30 PM (IST). The webinar shall also have a high-level panel discussion on the above subject, involving the subject experts from different parts of the region, including the System Operators from Bangladesh/Bhutan/India/Nepal, thought leaders from energy sector/educational institutions, experts from consulting firms/industries, and representatives from Multilateral Agencies/ Development Financial Institution (DFI).
